I did my first book signing on Saturday May 3, and Katie Varner the owner at The Same Page bookstore, was nice enough (and tech-y enough!) to live stream it on Facebook. So I have a 33-minute video that, well, I found pretty hard to watch, so it took me awhile to trim it down to about eight minutes. It’s posted after the continuation below.
Now I’ve set my sights on expanding to bigger venues, and top of the list is Barnes & Noble, which has two stores in Tulsa. I visited both stores yesterday and the folks there couldn’t be nicer, but I found some small complications with the process as I imagined it.
But first, you might like to watch this video! The whole experience was well worth it, the audience was receptive, and the bookstore environment suited the whole thing well.
My necktie starts looking like a sight gag once I begin the printing demonstration. Too bad I didn’t plan it that way!
After speaking with the B&N managers at both stores, I found that I will need to use a different distribution system than the default that Amazon offers, and that means a little more research and detective work. I’m learning quite a bit about book distribution and the various systems available. On the plus side, if you poke around enough, everything you need to know is somewhere on one of the internets!
Barnes & Noble’s help pages are chock full of useful info and as usual, there’s so much, that finding what you need to know becomes a bigger and bigger task. Once you find what you want, though, it all becomes worth it.
There’s more interesting news coming down the pike but it’s too early to say much about it. I hope to have more to announce soon. Thanks for reading all the way down here! You can leave a comment below if you like.
